The American Legion has a number of initiatives to help veterans and their families, one of which is the American Legion Scholarship Fund. The fund provides higher education financial support for children of veterans who have fallen in active duty post-September 11th, 2001, as well as children of veterans who have become disabled during this period. One of the major fundraising efforts of this scholarship is the Legacy Run, which is sponsored by USAA and has taken place annually over the past 12 years. This year’s run was held in the summer and spanned western parts of the country, including Colorado and Utah, after beginning in Kansas.

This year’s event raised more than $550,000, which will be used for new scholarships. All told, the Legacy Run events have brought in upwards of $7.4 million for the fund.
