As the American Legion approaches its 100th anniversary in March, 2019, an effort called Team 100, is underway to not only increase membership, but to “draw on our timeless principles, reload and fire them into a second century of service to community, state and nation” according to Brett Reistad, the National Commander of the American Legion.
In an article titled ‘You are Team 100’, National Commander Reistad states “[a]s I prepare to lead The American Legion during its centennial year, I believe this is an opportunity to promote and educate communities nationwide about the organization’s history, four pillars, programs, and contributions to veterans and their families. To support this effort, I have chosen Team 100 to be our centennial membership theme – to bring all our resources to bear, increase our membership and start our second century of service off on the right foot.”
Each Legionnaire can help achieve the intent of Team 100 by identifying and recruiting new members to the American Legion. Often, just asking an eligible person to join the American Legion is what it takes for that person to join the Legion.
