National Association of Corporate Director’s ‘From Battlefield to Boardroom’ Course

NACD logo for article by Brig Gen ret Carl BuhlerRecently, I was able to attend the National Association of Corporate Director’s (NACD) “From Battlefield to Boardroom” course.  Simply put, it was fantastic.  As one of over sixty retired, or soon-to-be retired, flag or general officers, I learned an enormous amount about corporate boards.

According to NACD, this course was “its eighth annual Battlefield to Boardroom event, a board development program designed to prepare retired and soon-to-retire military flag and general officers to serve in the boardroom.”  NACD added “Speakers addressed topics ranging from the roles and responsibilities of corporate directors and board members’ fiduciary duties to more complex issues related to the oversight of strategy, risk, and cybersecurity; committees; and board/shareholder engagement.”

Additionally, attending the course was a great opportunity to reconnect with friends I served with over the last three decades, plus an opportunity to meet new friends and associates.  My interest in board membership definitely increased as a result of attending …and I look forward to attending more NACD courses and events.  For more details on NACD and this course, please visit NACD’s article.
