Today, January 28, 2019, is National Data Privacy Day.

According to NationalDayCalendar.com, “Data Privacy Day was first initiated by the Council in Europe in 2007.  In 2009 the United States House of Representatives recognized National Data Privacy Day and the United States Senate recognized Data Privacy Day in 2010 and 2011.  It has continued through the efforts of various groups and organizations since.”

On January. 27, 2014, the 113th U.S. Congress adopted Senate Resolution 337, which is a non-binding resolution designating Jan. 28 as “National Data Privacy Day.”  The designation serves as a reminder to us all about living in a day and age where data privacy should be a focal point in our lives.

According to StaySafeOnline.org, “Data Privacy Day is the signature event in a greater privacy awareness and education effort. Year-round, National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) educates consumers on how they can own their online presence and shows organizations how privacy is good for business.”

Lastly, per NationalCalendarDay.com, one way to observe today is by using #DataPrivacyDay on social media posts.  For more information on how to be safe with your data, please visit staysafeonline.org.
