Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada is scheduled to host the upcoming 2019 Air Force Trials from March 1 to March 7, 2019.  The Air Force Trails are a Paralympic-style competitive event with adaptive sports tailored to the capabilities of the wounded warrior athletes. 150 competitors are eligible to compete.

According to the Air Force Wounded Warrior website, each “athlete is competing to earn one of 40 slots on Team Air Force in anticipation of being a participant at the Department of Defense Warrior Games” being held from June 21 through June 30, 2019.  The 2019 DoD Warrior games will be hosted by the U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Florida.

According to the official Facebook DoD Warrior Games page, “the Warrior Games were established in 2010 as a way to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, ill and injured warriors and to expose them to adaptive sports.”  Additionally, athletes will participate in “14 events, including archery, wheelchair basketball, cycling, track and field, and swimming. There will be three new events this year — golf, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis.”

The event is scheduled to bring in a large number of athletes and their families, plus approximately 1,000 coaches and staff members.  For more information on the event and the effort underway to host the event, visit this article.
